Drake ft Rihanna – Take Care (Cover)

After a long silence I have finally done another video! It felt so good singing again! Since coming home from holiday I had really struggled to find a song I wanted to cover. So I turned to My Facebook Page and asked my fans for ideas! Nick from Pimppalacecustoms sent me a link of Florence and the Machine covering “Take Care” By Drake Ft Rihanna which is from Drake’s new album “Take Care”. I had already heard the original version and I already loved it, but never thought I could cover it because of the large amount of rapping involved. But once I had heard the Florence version I figured if she can do it then so can I!!

Here is her version..

Say You’ll Be There Cover – Spice Girls

The Spice Girls were undeniably the best girl group of all time! During the 90′s I lived and breathed the Spice Girls. Every school disco me and my friends would always dress up as the Spice Girls, we were absolutely obsessed.

A friend of mine recently sent me to link of Ben L’oncle Soul covering the Spice Girls song Say You’ll Be There. As you can imagine I instantly found my love for the Spice Girls again and I haven’t been able to stop listening to them ever since.

Check my latest video of me cover Say You’ll Be There. This is the Ben L’oncle Soul version…. Like the Cassette Society top I’m wearing in the video? It is from an awesome NZ online store Wight. Check out more of their stuff HERE.

Just to jog your memory this is the original version by the Spice Girls

Rihanna Cover – Umbrella (Acoustic)

I have always really liked this song the original version is so catchy and the music video for it is awesome. After wasting a fair amount of time surfing You Tube and hearing it sung acoustically it really changed my view on this song. The lyrics are strong and quite powerful.

After reading through the lyrics I decided I would cover the song and dedicate it to two of my best friends Shann and Char! :) You two girls are bad ass chicks and don’t ever let anyone make you feel anything less than totally amazing! I love ya both and you can stand under my umbrella anytime :)

Girls this is for you, enjoy :)

I Need A Dollar – Aloe Blacc Cover

So I heard this song “I Need A Dollar” By Aloe Blacc on the TV series How To Make It In America and instantly loved it! It is such a great catchy song so I thought I would cover it!

First Jam Session With Sam

So Sam Horgan and I have decided to starting doing some music stuff together and tonight we had our first jam session. Sam and I used to be in a band together back in High School! :)

We have started putting together a list of songs that we could learn and one day perform (our goal is to start doing gigs around Wellington)

We even had a bit of a jam on the Garage Band app on the iPads!

Sam is a multi talented musician that can play the guitar, is a pro on the drums and can even bash out a few sounds on an iPad piano :)

This app on its own is totally worth getting an iPad for! it is so much fun even if you have no music knowledge

Check back here soon to see what songs we have picked!

Poem Assignment

I have gone back to uni this year studying part time extramurally through Massey doing a Bachelor of Communication!

The first paper I am doing is a creative writing paper so I have to poems and short stories!! Ahhhhhh!!! haha

So this is the first poem I have ever written and its about being a singer! :)

Heels beat like a drum on the hard wood floor

Every step in sync with a thumping heart

A single stark light beams down

The microphone casts a crisp shadow across the ground

Stepping into the circle of light,

Murmurs from the crowd draw to a halt

Nervous ears deafened by silent speakers

The audience steers like a panel of judges

As the music fills the silence, nerves melt away

The microphone like a tool makes them obey

Drawing them in with every word every note

En masse they are converted, critics now fans

The roar of applause like music to ears

An arising wave as the crowd come to feet

Heavy red velvet falls from above

Darkness surrounds with a gasp of relief

Tiki Taane – Always On My Mind

Tiki Tane has been one of my favorite New Zealand artists ever since I saw him live at Homegrown, Wellington. This particular song “Always On My Mind” is from his first album Past, Present, Future. It’s pretty much the song that made him world famous in New Zealand.

Below is my cover of the song, not in my Vodafone uniform for once! ;)
