Custom BMX Complete

My BMX is finished and I am so in love with it! I was riding it all weekend! I have even learn how to ride down stairs and how to bunny hop! Thanks Ben for teaching me and for putting up with me being an impatient bitch!! :) hehe

I would also like to say a huge thanks to everyone that helped me with this project! Ben (of course), Cam from Cycle Science for getting me all the sweet purple Colony parts and for putting it all together for me! Also big thanks to Bruce for the sick paint job! Couldn’t have done it without you guys!!

I am still thinking about getting the purple Colony wheels but they are a rather large investment so they may have to wait until after America.

Coming Together – BMX

As my last post states I had my 21st party of the weekend and I got lots of amazing gifts from all my amazing friends and wonderful family!!

But there was something that my boyfriend Ben Silcock did for me that was beyond awesome! He got a whole heap of the parts I wanted for my BMX and got it put together!

I am so stoked about it because I didn’t think I could afford to get all of this done before our trip to America!

Thank you Benny for being so awesome and generous! I love you! :) …..Hehe also thank you Andre and Bonnie Simon for buying me the Colony Sprocket

I can’t wait to get a seat and some wheels so I can actually ride it! ….. (Taryn not long till we will have our BMX Gang!!) :)

Donatello Gets His Colour

Today I spent the afternoon at Bruce’s place doing the last bit of sanding on my bike to get it ready to be painted! My nails and skin on my hands are completely ruined but I don’t even care because the paint job looks awesome! Huge thanks to Bruce for doing such a fantastic job! I am soooo happy with it! :)

The colour getting mixed!

It took quite a few coats of paint to get the bike totally covered and looking perfect! Apparently the paint I picked was rather thin!

A wee video of Bruce painting my handle bars!

Watching! :)

The bike got a final gloss coat to give it an awesome shine!

Next up is the expensive part! Getting all my purple parts for the bike! I am so excited though, it is all coming along brilliantly! :)

Ben finally picked a colour for his bike. Within the space of a few days he has gone from wanting grey to silver to orange to blue to finally deciding on purple! It is a sweet colour! It’s called Morpheus.

Perfect Green

I have been to the Total Body Shop and picked my paint colour!! After looking through heaps of colour swatches I have finally picked my perfect green!

I did a bit of a test with the paint to see what it would look like on and then took it to Cycle Science  to match it against the purple purple rims I want! I think it looks pretty sweet!

Think the bike is going to get painted this weekend!!

The Hard Part

I spent last weekend at Speedtech sanding down my BMX! It was hard and took ages! So far it has been the worst part of doing up a BMX!

Bam also did some grinding for me to cut some stuff off the bike that was “not cool” (Thank you Bammy) :)

Sanding!! I ruined my nails soooo bad! :! ( haha

Bam doing what he does awesome!

Next up is to pick my paint colour for the frame, fork and handle bars! I can’t wait!! :)

Disassembling The BMX

Yesterday Ben and I went and picked up his BMX! It is in pretty awesome condition!

We then heading over to STM to start taking them apart!

I actually had a lot of fun disassembling my bike.

Haha I actually used tools and everything! Im like a pro already! :)

I even got my hands dirty! Think it’s time to get my nails re-done now though!

So, next up we are going to get the frame, fork and handle bars acid dipped to strip all the old paint off them. Then it will be time to pick the perfect green colour to get it all painted! Can’t wait!

Project Donatello – The BMX

So I have put a wee plan together on what I want to do for the bike to give you all an idea on what the final product will look like! I have also decided that because I can’t afford to do up a car I am going to invest a bit more into the bike and use it to ride to work on!

I have also given this project a name – taking it back old school cartoon style! It’s called Donatello from the Teenage Ninja Turtles!

The BMX Arrival

Around the end of last year my good friend Taryn from iheartstance did up a BMX. She got the frame painted pink and got a pink chain and pink handle bar grips for it too. As you can imagine i totally fell in love with it! It got me thinking that maybe I wanted to do something like this to have as a kind of hobby. So I started watching the BMX category on Trade Me to try and find a old bike that was in good condition and not too expensive! Not long ago I found one in Palmerston North and picked it up a few weeks ago! I am so excited to get working on it!

Won’t be long until we will have our bike gang Taryn! haha :)
